Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting more than 100,000 Canadians, with approximately 6,600 new cases diagnosed annually (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2020). While PD is primarily known for its impact on movement, its effects extend beyond motor symptoms, influencing cognition, mood, and overall quality of life.
At Magnetix Health, we offer Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) as an innovative, non-invasive therapy designed to address both motor and psychological symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

(Levodopa, dopamine agonists): Effective for motor symptoms but can cause long-term side effects like dyskinesias (involuntary movements).
An invasive surgical procedure that can improve symptoms but carries risks such as infection and hardware complications.
Help manage depression and anxiety but may not fully address the neurological aspects of Parkinson’s disease.
Despite these treatments, many patients struggle with persistent motor, cognitive, and mood-related symptoms, highlighting the need for alternative approaches.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive therapy that targets specific brain regions to modulate activity and improve symptoms.
rTMS stimulates the primary motor cortex (M1), enhancing dopaminergic signalling, which is essential for movement (Chou et al., 2015).
Targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) with rTMS reduces depression and anxiety, two common co-existing conditions in PD (Shin et al., 2020).
Unlike DBS, rTMS does not require surgery and carries minimal side effects, such as mild headaches or temporary scalp discomfort (Elahi et al., 2009).
Although rTMS is not yet FDA-approved specifically for Parkinson’s disease, its off-label use is backed by strong scientific evidence.
At Magnetix Health, we specialize in personalized rTMS protocols tailored to each patient’s needs. Our approach includes:
